Novant Health records $7B impact on North Carolina economy

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health reported a $7.1 billion impact on North Carolina’s economy in 2015, according to an analysis by Novant Health and the Center for Healthcare Economics and Policy.

Novant Health directly employed 22,402 and maintained 48,065 jobs in 2015, according to the analysis. It also generated $834 million in tax revenue for the state.

Impacts varied by area. The Charlotte-Concord area saw a $3.9 billion impact, the Greensboro-Winston-Salem-High Point area saw a $2.8 billion impact and other parts of the state saw a $387 million impact.

Economic impact was measured using data regarding Novant Health’s net operating revenues, salaries, wages, benefits and construction costs for all its North Carolina facilities. 

Novant Health includes 11 medical centers, nine outpatient surgery centers, 26 diagnostic imaging centers, eight outpatient rehabilitation centers and more than 400 physician clinics.
