Novant cuts positions as it outsources IT system

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health is laying off IT workers as the system changes up its IT system, a spokesperson for the health system told Becker's.

Novant said it is establishing a new IT model for its digital products and services team.

"Over the next several months, some DPS services will be transferred to an external partner with demonstrated success in the healthcare industry, providing efficient, 24/7 support to optimize the user experience," the health system said in a statement. "We are working with team members who are impacted to ease the transition and are grateful for their service to Novant Health and our patients."

The health system did not disclose the name of the external company or the number of positions that will be affected.

"The figures could fluctuate based on individual interests," a Novant spokesperson said. "Some will have the opportunity to consider newly assigned roles and responsibilities with the redesign of this new model."

Novant recently laid off 160 of its 36,000 employees as part of an "organizational redesign plan." The layoffs primarily affected management and administrative positions.
