Norton Healthcare sees operating income jump 43% in Q2

Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Healthcare recorded higher revenues and operating income in the second quarter of 2018 compared to the same period of the year prior, according to recently released bondholder documents.

Norton recorded revenues of $566.5 million in the three months ended June 30, up from $525.5 million in the same period a year earlier. The boost was attributable to growth in net patient service revenue due to higher patient volumes.

After factoring in operating expenses, Norton ended the second quarter of 2018 with operating income of $27.3 million, up 43 percent from $19 million in the same period of the year prior.

When looking at the first half of 2018, the health system recorded operating income of $46.7 million on revenues of $1.12 billion. That's compared to the first six months of 2017, when Norton reported operating income of $44.6 million on revenues of $1.1 billion.
