NorthShore University HealthSystem sees slight dip in operating income in FY 2016

Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem saw revenue increase in 2016 but ended last year with lower operating income than in 2015, according to recently released bondholder documents.

NorthShore recorded revenue of $2.05 billion in FY 2016, up 4.6 percent from $1.96 billion in the year prior. Total net patient service revenue climbed 5.4 percent year over year to $1.93 billion in FY 2016.

However, the system’s expenses outpaced its revenue growth. In FY 2016, NorthShore’s expenses totaled $1.91 billion, up 5.5 percent from $1.81 billion in FY 2015. 

NorthShore ended FY 2016 with operating income of $138.88 million, a 6.8 percent decrease from operating income of $149.09 million in FY 2015.

After factoring in nonoperating income, NorthShore reported net income of $133.62 million in FY 2016, up from $90.86 million in the year prior.
