Nonprofit hospitals predict 2 years to risk-based payment switch

Nearly 80 percent of nonprofit hospitals report collecting less than 10 percent of revenue from risk-based contracting, though that number is set to fall markedly in the next two years, according to a Kaufman Hall survey of nonprofit hospital executives.

Approximately 75 percent of respondents said they anticipated at least 10 percent of their revenue will originate from value-based payments within the next 24 months, according to the report.

Percentage of revenue currently coming from risk-bearing or value-based payments:

0-9 percent: 78.3 percent of respondents

10-19 percent: 7.2 percent of respondents

20-29 percent: 5.8 percent of respondents

30-39 percent: 1.4 percent of respondents

40-49 percent: 1.4 percent of respondents

50 percent or greater: 5.8 percent of respondents
