NewYork-Presbyterian plans 1,000 layoffs

New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian has shared plans to lay off 2% of its employees, or 1,000 people.

The health system has 50,000 employees, according to its website

“Given current macroeconomic realities and anticipated challenges ahead, we have made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce by approximately 2%,” a spokesperson for NewYork-Presbyterian said in a May 8 statement shared with Becker’s

The news follows a $750 million May 5 settlement with Columbia University and its affiliate NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, both in New York City, after 576 patients reported misconduct or sexual abuse at the hands of a former gynecologist.

Becker’s has followed up with the health system to learn more about the roles affected and will update this story should more information become available.
