Gov. Brownback wants to overhaul the $2.9 billion Medicaid program and issue contracts to three undetermined managed care companies, according to the report. If and when Kansas receives a waiver from CMS, the managed care contracts would go live on Jan. 1, 2013.
Some state legislators questioned the timeframe of the Republican’s governor’s plan. Sen. Dick Kelsey (R-Goddard) said in the report the proposal toward Medicaid managed care should be pushed back until July 1, 2013, because the transition “will be a tremendously chaotic thing.”
