According to an article by the Public News Service, healthcare providers and advocates for children and low-income families are concerned about any future Medicaid cuts.
“The state is losing $265 million just in federal funds and then state funding was around $67 million short,” New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty Staff Attorney Abuko Estrada said in the Public News Service article. “That’s over $330 million lost to the healthcare system and economy.”
This has prompted Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales, N.M., to look out for how to accommodate for potential cuts, Public Relations Director Greg McFarland told the Portales News-Tribune.
La Casa Family Health Center, which has a number of New Mexico locations, also spoke to the publication, saying although the center doesn’t expect Medicaid cuts, since it is a federally qualified health center, they are receiving cuts of $107,000 from the Rural Primary Health Care Act.
According to the report, the center plans to accommodate budget cuts by looking into how to increase their market share and number of patients.
