New Jersey hospital offers employment opportunities, free meals to furloughed federal employees

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, a 1,070-bed hospital in Paramus, N.J., is supporting furloughed federal government employees by offering immediate temporary employment opportunities and free meals.

Federal employees affected by the partial government shutdown can apply for positions and receive immediate offers.

Bergen New Bridge also is offering free meals to furloughed federal government employees and their immediate family members if they provide a valid federal government ID. Officials said those affected may come to the hospital's full-service cafeteria, Bistro Café, and The Daily Grind (grab-and-go options only) for meals.

"As a community provider, we want to support our government colleagues and their families by offering something meaningful," Deborah Visconi, president and CEO of Bergen New Bridge, said in a news release. "I can think of nothing else more significant than offering short-term gainful employment and extending free meals to these workers and their families."
