Carson City, Nev.-based Carson Tahoe Health and UnitedHealthcare reached an agreement to restore in-network access to Carson Tahoe Health physicians, clinics and hospital services for eligible UnitedHealthcare commercial and Medicare Advantage members. The agreement takes effect Nov. 1.
The agreement follows a dispute dating back to November 2023, when Carson Tahoe announced that it would terminate its contract with UnitedHealthcare, citing issues with reimbursements, claims processing and prior authorizations. The previous contract expired May 30, 2025.
The agreement expands access for northern Nevada residents, including people covered through employer-sponsored insurance and Medicare Advantage, according to the system.
The Nov. 1 start date is especially significant for Medicare beneficiaries, as Medicare open enrollment goes through Dec. 7.
“We’ve heard firsthand how the loss of in-network access has affected individuals and families across Northern Nevada,” Michelle Joy, president and CEO of Carson Tahoe Health, said in an Oct. 27 news release. “We’re pleased to have reached an agreement that restores that access and gives our community more choices when it comes to getting the care they need.”
