Nebraska’s only free-standing birth center to close

The Midwife’s Place in Bellevue, Neb., the state’s first and only free-standing birth center, will close July 28.

In a letter sent to patients, the center said, “The reasons for the closure are many, including political struggles in the natural birth community and the medical community.”

More than 500 babies have been born at The Midwife’s Place since it opened in 2011.
