The Nashville Hospital Authority, which operates Nashville General, receives a subsidy of $35 million each year. However, hospital CEO Joseph Webb, DSc, requested and was granted an additional $10 million earlier this year to stabilize operations and address deficiencies identified in a 2015 Joint Commission report.
With collections falling $5 million below projections, Nashville Hospital Authority staff have recommended the city give an additional $10 million to stabilize the hospital’s operations for the 2016-17 fiscal year, according to the report.
The hospital authority’s board of directors is expected to consider the supplemental request in December.
