Mount Sinai considers downsizing Beth Israel

Executives from New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System are exploring plans to rebuild Beth Israel hospital and possibly replace it with a smaller facility, according to a Politico report.

“We are in the midst of trying to figure out how to rebuild the hospital, looking at various options to rebuild it and integrate it better into our system,” Ken Davis, president and CEO of Mount Sinai told Politico. “We know care is moving more to an ambulatory space and we know there will have to be some diminution of inpatient beds.”

Mount Sinai Health System inherited 856-bed Beth Israel in 2013 when Mount Sinai Medical Center and Continuum Health Partners, both based in New York City, completed their merger.
