Most and least expensive hospitals in Chicago and NYC, according to Amino

Bronx (N.Y.)-Lebanon Hospital Center is the least expensive Leapfrog-graded hospital in the New York City region, according to an analysis from Amino.

Amino, a San Francisco-based healthcare transparency company, recently analyzed relative expensiveness of Leapfrog-graded hospitals across health insurers in the NYC and Chicago regions.

For the analyses, Amino examined its database of insurance claims to create a Facility Cost Index measuring expensiveness of a hospital. The company said it created this index specifically for outpatient fee-for-service procedures using a baseline payer. Amino then compared prices observed at different facilities in its data against this baseline and said it translated the "multiplier" for each facility into dollars — Facility Cost Ratings.

Here are five hospitals with the highest Amino Cost Ratings in the NYC area, regardless of Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.

1. University Hospital of Brooklyn
2. NYU Langone Medical Center
3. University Medical Center at Princeton
4. Jersey Shore University Medical Center
5. NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull

Here are five hospitals with the lowest Amino Cost Ratings in the NYC area, regardless of Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.

1. St. John's Riverside Hospital's ParkCare Pavilion
2. Forest Hills Hospital
3. University Hospital
4. Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center
5. Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, Grand Concourse Division

Here are five hospitals with the highest Amino Cost Ratings in the Chicago area, regardless of Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.

1. University of Chicago Medical Center
2. Community First Medical Center
3. Kishwaukee Hospital
4. Rush Oak Park Hospital
5. Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital

Here are five hospitals with the lowest Amino Cost Ratings in the Chicago area, regardless of Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.

1. MacNeal Hospital
2. Vista Medical Center East
3. Holy Cross Hospital
4. Amita Health Adventist Medical Center-GlenOaks
5. Little Company of Mary Hospital

Overall, Amino identified Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, N.J., as the best-value hospital in the NYC area and Amita Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center-Elk Grove Village (Ill.) as the best-value hospital in the Chicago area after factoring in Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade and cost.
