Supercommittee Expected to Maintain Healthcare Reform Funding

The supercommittee tasked with identifying at least $1.2 billion in federal cuts before next week is expected to largely leave healthcare reform funding alone, save the possibility of cuts the law’s $14 billion public health and prevention fund, according to a Politico report.

The article calls the “hands-off scenario” a “remarkable achievement for Democrats.” However, Republicans are still expected to attempt to defund the law through other means.

The supercommittee is also not expected to take up reform of Medicare’s sustainable growth rate for physician payments either, according to the report.
