Cox HealthPlans, the insurance arm of Springfield, Mo.-based CoxHealth, will stop selling ACA marketplace plans directly starting in 2027, instead partnering with insurer Oscar Health to offer marketplace coverage.
The new Oscar plans will be built around CoxHealth’s network of hospitals and clinics in eight southwest Missouri counties. The health system said Aug. 7 it will continue selling off-exchange individual insurance products in seven of the eight counties. Employers will also be able to access the Oscar plans through individual coverage health reimbursement arrangements.
The exit extends a pullback that began last year, when CoxHealth said it would discontinue marketplace plans in Greene and Webster counties for 2026. The system joins a growing list of provider-owned insurers scaling back or exiting coverage lines in recent years, including Providence Health Plan, Baylor Scott & White Health Plan and Carle Health’s Health Alliance.
