Memorial Hospital Biloxi (Miss.) will end its obstetrics services and transfer them to Memorial Hospital Gulfport (Miss.) on Sept. 1. The hospitals are part of Memorial Hospital System in Gulfport.
Obstetrics services being consolidated include labor and delivery, nursery and mother and baby, according to an Aug. 11 statement shared with Becker’s.
“This transition will allow all expectant mothers to benefit from the region’s most advanced maternity care in one location,” the statement said. “This change reflects our commitment to growing and strengthening services for our community. By uniting maternity services in Gulfport, we can offer families a seamless, well-supported birth experience backed by the full expertise of our Memorial team.”
Memorial Hospital Gulfport features a level III neonatal intensive care unit, which is the only NICU on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, the statement said. It also has a 24/7 laborist program, breastfeeding center, education and support services for families, and an obstetrics emergency department.
Memorial Hospital Biloxi will maintain gynecological surgical services. All the hospital’s impacted obstetrics team members will be offered other Memorial Health System positions, including roles at the Biloxi location, according to the statement.
