The 35-bed hospital leased space on Merit Health River Region’s main campus since 2018, and its closure on June 8 has affected the community, the report said.
“It’s just been a month, but it’s already taking a toll on families,” the hospital’s former medical director Torrance Green, MD, said in the report. He also said nearby emergency rooms and ICUs are backed up, which he tied to KPC Promise’s closure.
The hospital was behind on its rent by about $1 million aat the beginning of the year. Although it had a payment plan and two checks totaling more than $500,000 Merit Health moved forward on plans to terminate the hospital’s lease.
