Greenwood (Miss.) Leflore Hospital has been selected to participate in CMS’ Rural Community Hospital Demonstration Program.

Three things to know:

1. Under the designation, the hospital will receive cost-based Medicare payments for  inpatient services, rather than the fixed rate level it is currently receiving, according to an April 24 Greenwood Leflore news release shared with Becker’s

2. The designation also qualifies the hospital for a swing bed, which the hospital is expecting to open later this year. Interim CEO Gary Marchand said offering skilled care is a key component of the hospital’s growth strategy.

3. Greenwood will begin participating in the program May 1. Hospital officials said that while the financial effect of the designation has not yet been quantified, the “additional funding will help stabilize hospital services for the long term.”

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
