Minuteman Health Gets HMO License, Premium Approval

Minuteman Health in Boston has received its HMO license and has gotten approval for its 2014 health insurance premiums rates from the Massachusetts Division of Insurance.

Minuteman, a Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan, will sell coverage through the Massachusetts Health Connector, the state’s online insurance marketplace established under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Minuteman is a member-governed, nonprofit health insurer founded by providers including Boston-based Tufts Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems and the New England Quality Care Alliance. Members will select the insurer’s board of directors and drive the plan’s governance.
