The settlement also gives certain patients the opportunity to receive a 40 percent discount on outstanding medical bills if their debt is fully paid by June 30.

Hutchinson Health settled with Minnesota’s attorney general in October 2020 following an investigation into its billing practices, which found that the health system had increased patients’ monthly bills beyond what they had agreed to pay.

“I’m pleased to see the positive, tangible results that the settlement has had so far, and that Hutchinson has taken additional steps to remedy any harm that patients experienced due to its actions,” Mr. Ellison said in a news release.
