TAVR, a newer technology to treat aortic stenosis, allows physicians to replace a patient’s aortic valve through a small opening in the leg instead of engaging in invasive surgery.
Hospitals can now expect reimbursement for TAVR under coverage with evidence development, but several conditions must be met. Some of the conditions include making sure the procedure uses an FDA-approved aortic valve and implantation system and having two cardiac surgeons document the rational for their clinical judgment.
