McLaren to open expanded full-service emergency center in Clarkston, Mich.: 6 things to know

Pontiac, Mich.-based McLaren Oakland is set to open the new McLaren Clarkston Emergency Center Feb. 15.

Here are six things to know about the emergency center.

1. The freestanding, 24/7 center will be located in Clarkston, Mich., at the site of a former urgent care center, which closed for renovations last November.

2. It will be staffed with board-certified or board-eligible emergency physicians, registered nurses trained in emergency medicine and paramedics onsite. In addition to the employees on staff at the current emergency department location, 46 new team members have been hired for the new emergency center, many of whom worked at the former urgent care center.

3. Once completed, the newly renovated emergency center will feature 20 patient treatment areas, including 14 private exam rooms, a cardiac monitoring room and a clinical isolation room.

4. The center will also have new flooring and a new exterior canopy for ambulance traffic.

5. Chad Grant, president and CEO of McLaren Oakland, which will own and operate the emergency center, expressed excitement about the project. "Our focus will be on delivering excellent service and high quality emergency care, provided by the same experienced emergency physicians that staff some of the region's busiest trauma centers," he said in a prepared statement.

6. The new site represents a change of location for the current McLaren Clarkston Health Center emergency department. The new site will be larger by nearly 10,000 square feet, enabling the emergency team to care for significantly more patients than can be accommodated in the current location. The current center will remain open to patients until the new emergency center opens.
