Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic recorded an income from current activities of $1.5 billion (6.8% margin) in 2025, up from $1.3 billion (6.5% margin) in 2024.
Six things to know:
1. Mayo’s income from current activities includes philanthropy and investment returns available for operating activities. The system recorded $995 million in investment return and contributions available for current activities in 2025, down from $1 billion last year. Mayo attributed the decrease to a greater portion of total contributions being directed toward nonoperating activities such as endowments and capital projects.
2. Total operating revenue was $21.5 billion for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, an 8.7% increase year over year. Mayo said the growth was driven by strong outpatient, surgical and hospital volumes, as well as increased service demand. “net medical service revenue grew 9.5% to $18.1 billion. Other operating revenue increased 11.4% to $1.6 billion.
3. Total operating expenses were $20.1 billion in 2025, an 8.4% increase year over year. Salaries and benefits grew 6.5% to $11.2 billion. Supplies and services expenses grew 11.2% to $7.5 billion, driven by volume increases. Facility expenses grew 11.6% to $1.2 billion due to recently completed construction projects and campus improvements.
4. Mayo’s capital expenditures totaled $1.4 billion in 2025. Expenditures include $670 million for major projects, $540 million for equipment and $172 million for other projects.
5. The system had 41.7 days revenue outstanding in 2025, compared to 44.4 in 2024. Mayo had 397 days cash on hand as of Dec. 31, up from 362 on the same date in 2024.
6. Mayo reported a net income of $5.2 billion in 2025, up from $3.8 billion in 2024.
