Mr. Rizzo, a cancer survivor himself, agreed in May to donate $3.5 million to Lurie Children’s through the creation of two endowment funds. The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation Child Life Endowed Fund provides ongoing support for two oncology child life specialists. The Hope 44 Endowed Fund provides financial support for families of cancer patients.
The waiting room on the 18th floor of the hospital is now named after Mr. Rizzo’s foundation, which has contributed more than $4 million to the hospital.
“To be able to give back and do this type of work is so much bigger than winning a World Series,” Mr. Rizzo said while presenting the check, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
