The nearest Ob-GYN physicians are now an hour’s drive away in Santa Fe, N.M., according to the report. Residents told the news station they find it both inconvenient and dangerous for pregnant women to travel so far for care. One resident told KOAT-TV she had a pregnant friend die in a car accident on her way home from a prenatal checkup outside of Las Vegas, according to the report.

Staff at the hospital said they are working to reopen the clinic, according to the report. The hospital will need more physicians and nurses to ensure it can offer 24/7 pediatric and obstetric care.
