Under the new Alternative Quality Care contract, physicians who stay within the budget of the global payments will share rewards. If they exceed the budget, the physicians will make up the difference.
UMass Memorial signed the contract recently, but adjusted its term to start as of Jan. 1, according to the report.
Children’s Hospital Boston, Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, all in Boston, also hold AQC contracts with BCBS Massachusetts. The payor launched the program in 2009.
