Kentucky Hospitals Provide $1.96B in Community Benefit

Kentucky’s 131 hospitals provided a net community benefit of $1.96 billion in 2011, the most current data available, up $7.9 million from the previous year, according to the Kentucky Hospital Association’s 2011 Community Benefits Report (pdf).

KHA’s total includes losses from Medicare and Medicaid.

Total financial assistance and charity care among the hospitals was $451 million for 2011, along with $270.8 million in research spending. Combined salary expenses and supplies and services spending amounted to $6.4 billion that year.
