Kentucky governor to scrap state exchange

Following through on campaign promises, new Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin (R) has notified the Obama administration he will dismantle Kynect, the state health insurance exchange, according to WFPL News.

The governor is scrapping the exchange because it is a "redundancy," according to a statement given to WFPL News from Gov. Bevin's spokeswoman Jessica Ditto.

"The transition will have no impact on Kentuckians' ability to obtain or continue health care coverage for the 2016 plan year," she said, according to the report.

Now the more than 500,000 people who have insurance through Kynect will need to find coverage on the federal exchange. Previous Gov. Steve Beshear (D) said it would cost the state $23 million to dismantle Kynect, according to the report.
