The system has been dubbed KanCare and is expected to begin operating on July 1, 2012, according to the report. Under the system, the private companies would bid for the Medicaid business and would be eligible for incentives for reducing costs and improving the health status of the plan’s members.
The changes are expected to save the state roughly $850 million over five years. Payments to providers would not be cut as part of the overhaul.
