Kaiser supports Mexico's earthquake relief efforts with $1M pledge

Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente committed $1 million in Mexico earthquake relief and recovery funding.

The healthcare giant's pledge will support the humanitarian nonprofit organization International Medical Corps. IMC will use the funding to help identify needs in areas affected by recent earthquakes, and to help support mental health and wellness needs of earthquake victims, among other relief and recovery efforts.

"Our hearts are with all those affected by the devastation and loss of life from the earthquakes that struck central Mexico," said Bechara Choucair, MD, senior vice president and chief community health officer for Kaiser Permanente. "Many of our employees and members have loved ones in the areas that were impacted. We felt it was imperative that we offer our help and resources in this critical time of need."

Kaiser and IMC plan to send disaster response experts and medical professionals to Mexico City Tuesday to aid ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
