Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente has purchased 7.2 acres in Atlanta’s Summerhill neighborhood near Center Parc Stadium, the former home of the Atlanta Braves, for $31.5 million, a spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s.
Kaiser said the land acquisition represents a long-term investment in the neighborhood, citing its recent growth and historical significance. No construction timeline or official development plans have been established.
The land could be used for a variety of purposes to improve access to care, the spokesperson said, adding that the health system “will take the necessary time to conduct thorough site and community assessments, thoughtfully engage community leaders and residents, and develop plans that reflect shared priorities.”
Those priorities include ensuring the site’s future use supports long-term health, economic opportunity, neighborhood vitality and population health, according to Kaiser.
The announcement comes as Kaiser positions itself for strategic expansion in 2026. The organization in January named Jim Marcotte as vice president of mergers and acquisitions and partnership development strategy implementation.
Kaiser serves nearly 12.6 million patients across eight states and Washington, D.C.
The organization has 26 care sites in Georgia, including three in Atlanta. It opened its first facility in the state more than 30 years ago, according to its website.
