In May, Coventry threatened to end its contract with ARH because it said the state did not implement a process to compensate managed care providers who have more high-risk patients. ARH said ending the contract would force tens of thousands of its patients to scramble for new coverage, thus hindering access to healthcare.
ARH, an eight-hospital system based in eastern Kentucky, sought an injunction last month. The judge ruled ARH showed “sufficient public interest and irreparable harm” if Coventry did not cover Medicaid services before ARH patients could enroll in a new health plan. The open enrollment period for Kentucky’s Medicaid takes effect November 1, according to the report.
Coventry patients are expected to transfer to WellCare of Kentucky, which is contracted with ARH.
