Working closely with the Senior VP Finance, the Senior VP Operations and other members of the Senior Leadership Team, the Financial Leader, Ambulatory Services will ensure that the strategic, operational and financial plans are integrated and consistent. Keeping future relationships and regional planning in mind, this position will also establish, analyze and execute financial and operational policies and goals in support of the larger strategic vision.
The individual will have frequent interaction with Board members, hospital and system senior leadership, department directors, staff, civic and business leaders, and government agencies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
More specifically, the Financial Leader, Ambulatory Services will:
- Serve in an active advising role regarding organizational priorities, based upon the strategic needs of the hospital, and in consideration of financial benefits, capital availability and cost/benefit analyses.
- Provide direction and education for a staff of financial leaders and support personnel in the ambulatory arena, whose role it is to partner with operations executives, physicians and staff in the formulation and implementation of plans and initiatives that strengthen the organizations ambulatory offerings. Assure the continued development of skills and knowledge base within the group.
- Maintain a ‘business leader’ approach, with a continual awareness of external/environmental issues, along with an active understanding of organizational needs and priorities.
- Demonstrate the ability to navigate within a complex environment in which competing projects and priorities must be rationalized. Participate in the negotiations and resolution of multiple opportunities, based upon long-term needs and organizational values and operating principles.
- Analyze data and interpret trends for the use of operations executives and ensure that management discussion and assessment reports are relevant, timely and used for improving effectiveness.
- Participate in system work groups for the planning, design and roll-out of organization-wide programs.
- Advocate for the approval of entity projects, requests and initiatives, based upon sound evidence and fit with long-term strategic needs. Routinely presents proposals to key constituent groups for information and approval.
- Play the lead role in the development and approval of operating and capital budgets for ambulatory services, taking into account the strategic plan and long-range financial plan of the participating entities; ensure that routine performance and analytic reports facilitate the identification of trends and improvement opportunities relative to approved budgets.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & REQUISITE SKILLS
The ideal candidate will possess the following credentials, skills and characteristics:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school; strong preference for MBA or other relevant Master’s Degree.
- Minimum of seven years of demonstrated, progressively responsible financial strategic and operational leadership/management experience is mandatory.
- Strategic leadership experience in a very dynamic, complex healthcare organization with a history of success and a pragmatic ability to address new challenges.
- Highly strategic and analytical with an ability to see the big picture; demonstrated success in proactively seeking out and capitalizing on new opportunities.
