Indianapolis hospital closes as resources shift to outpatient care

Indianapolis-based Community Health Network closed Community Westview Hospital Dec. 16 after a gradual step-down of services over the past few years.

Community Westview Hospital, Indiana's only osteopathic hospital, stopped functioning as an inpatient facility in 2015 but continued to operate its emergency department and offer some imaging and surgical services. Community Health Network announced last October it would completely vacate Community Westview Hospital's campus and devote resources instead to outpatient care in the area.

When the hospital closed Dec. 16, many of its services were relocated to other Community Health Network sites in the area.

Community Westview Hospital had about 145 full- and part-time employees, and Community Health Network's human resources team worked with the employees to identify opportunities at the system's other sites.
