Illinois’ unpaid payer, provider claims stretch past 18 months

Illinois’ unpaid medical claims for state employees is growing by about $200 million per month, according to a new report from the state’s commission of government forecasting and accountability.

The commission reported some insurance companies and providers are still awaiting reimbursement for claims issued up to 18 months ago, according to WIBQ.

Moody’s Investors Service estimated the state’s backlog of total unpaid bills, including unpaid medical claims, could reach a record high of $14 billion by June 2017, according to the Chicago Tribune.
