Illinois cancer institute gets $10M state investment

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker awarded Carbondale-based Southern Illinois Healthcare a $10 million grant for its recent Carterville-based SIH Cancer Institute expansion.

The grant will provide upgrades to the institute's furniture, medical equipment and facility buildout, according to a Jan. 11 Illinois.gov press release.

The facility expansion was completed in 2022 and added 20,000 square feet of expansion and modernized the facilities clinical and nonclinical areas.

Two capital grants, both $150,000, have also been awarded to SIH to support additional expansion for the cancer institute's cafe and kitchen renovations.

Mr. Pritzker's $45 billion Rebuild Illinois capital program supported the three grants.

A nonprofit health system, SIH has four hospitals, a comprehensive cancer center, over 30 outpatient and specialty practices, and a level 2 trauma center. SIH has 4,000 employees.
