Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health is continuing to lean into its “run, evolve and transform” framework to mitigate the effects of healthcare industry headwinds and evolving legislative pressure, such as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
In its Nov. 19 financial report, Trinity outlined actions focused on sustaining the system and best serving its communities:
- Redesign and reposition clinical service lines, system portfolios and administrative services using a zero-based methodology.
- Optimize existing service lines and invest in prioritized clinical programs and services such as ambulatory surgery centers, imaging, robotics and the non-acute community division. The system is emphasizing primary care to “elevate member/patient experience and outcomes.”
- Improve access and care coordination to create an exceptional member/patient experience.
- Leverage innovative technologies such as AI and data-driven solutions to advance strategic priorities and care delivery models. The system is also working to optimize its Epic-powered TogetherCare platform to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiencies.
- Pursue high-value opportunities through strategic capital investments and growth initiatives driven by data analytics to pursue service lines and markets that “align with evolving demand and long-term value creation.”
- Improve supply chain efficiency and workforce productivity by using technology to mitigate rising inflation and supply chain volatility.
- Prioritize physician recruitment and strengthen relationships with existing clinicians to reduce reliance on temporary providers and minimize locum subsidies.
- Improve commercial payer mix by prioritizing medical group access and growing outpatient services and elective surgical care.
Trinity recorded an operating income of $77.4 million (1.2% operating margin) in the first quarter of fiscal 2026, up from an operating income of $36.7 million (0.6% margin) during the same period last year.
