Jackson Healthcare surveyed 1,512 physicians last year. Roughly 36 percent of physicians’ total compensation came from fixed sources that do not vary with productivity, such as salaries, hourly rates or stipends. Here is the breakdown of physician compensation from the survey:
• Fixed sources: 36 percent.
• Productivity measures: 12 percent.
• Compensation from practice ownership: 8 percent.
• Diagnostic imaging: 2.3 percent.
• Charges associated with facility fees for surgeries: 1.3 percent.
• Charges associated with hospital admissions: 1.1 percent.
• Charges associated with lab tests: 1 percent
• Charges associated with prescriptions: 0.5 percent.
