High deductible health plans are becoming more commonplace, and as this trend continues consumers are cutting back on the care they decide to receive. A report released by the Healthcare Council of Western Pennsylvania found high deductible plans are responsible for a decrease in surgeries in the state, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
For the 12 months ended June 30, the number of surgical procedures done at hospitals dropped by 6,670, according to the report. There was a 2.7 percent decline in inpatient procedures and a 0.77 percent decline in outpatient procedures.
