HHS is seeking an organization to update the federal Women’s Preventive Services Guidelines, which determine which preventive services most private health plans must cover for women without cost sharing, including copays and deductibles.
The Health Resources and Services Administration will award up to $1 million in fiscal 2027 to one organization under its new Women’s Initiative for Screening and Health program, according to a Nov. 6 HHS news release. The organization will convene a panel of at least 10 experts in women’s health, primary care, public health and other fields, conduct evidence reviews to update or reaffirm the guidelines’ recommendations, and develop information on the guidelines for communities with limited resources.
The program builds on the Women’s Preventive Services Initiative, which has reviewed evidence and recommended updates to the guidelines since 2016, according to the release. HHS said the effort advances priorities in the executive order on women’s health that President Donald Trump signed in October.
An estimated 58 million women had private coverage that included preventive services without cost sharing, according to a 2022 HHS report cited in the release.
Applications for the funding are due Jan. 8.
