Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Ala., is working with Rep. Aderholt in an attempt to improve Alabama’s wage index, which impacts Medicare payments.

Medicare payments are adjusted based on average hospital labor costs for an area. Alabama currently received the lowest reimbursement levels of any state, which Rep. Aderholt says puts the state’s hospitals “at a severe disadvantage.”
