HHS opens portal for providers, payers to report surprise billing disputes

HHS opened an online portal April 15 for providers and payers to report surprise billing disputes.

Payers and providers must initiate the federal independent dispute resolution process within four business days after the 30-business-day open negotiation period ends, according to HHS. Information from both parties in the dispute must be provided. 

The parties can still reach an agreement on a payment amount while the process is underway, according to the HHS.
