Healthcare private equity activity reached record levels in 2018: 4 things to know

Private equity firms saw a record year in the healthcare market, according to a report from Bain & Co., a global management consulting firm.

The report highlighted four private equity trends:

1. Globally, total value of disclosed healthcare deals by PE firms reached $63.1 billion in 2018, the highest recorded since 2006.

2. Globally, total healthcare deal volume by PE firms rose to 316 in 2018 from 265 the year prior.

3. North America continued to be the most active region for PE activity globally last year, and provider and related services remained the most active sector.

4. The provider sector saw total PE-disclosed deals reach $35 billion in 2018 across 159 deals, up from $18.9 billion across 139 deals in 2017.
