Six things to know:
1. HCA said revenues increased 9.6 percent year over year to $12.5 billion in the first quarter of 2019.
2. A portion of the increase in revenue — $86 million — was attributable to an arbitration agreement HCA finalized with a payer related to out-of-network claims.
3. HCA said same-hospital admissions increased 0.9 percent year over year.
4. The company’s operating expenses totaled $9.99 billion in the first quarter of 2019, up from $9.31 billion in the first quarter of 2018.
5. HCA ended the first quarter of 2019 with net income of $1.04 billion, down from $1.14 billion in the same period a year earlier.
6. Shares of HCA closed April 30 at $127.23, up from $125.42 the day prior.
