The report also shows that HCA ended 2023 with 124 freestanding outpatient surgery centers and 24 freestanding endoscopy centers
HCA saw a 0.7 percentage-point increase in outpatient revenues as percentage of patient revenues, from 37.6% 2022 to 38.3% in 2023. Its average length of stay decreased 0.1% year over year from 4.995 days to 4.911 days.
News of the hospital and bed increase comes as HCA invested in large projects and multiple transactions in 2023, including a planned investment of $5.3 billion into pre-approved projects, with $1 billion going to 62 freestanding emergency departments and ambulatory surgery centers.
