A spokesman for UnitedHealth Group has said the hospital is asking for a 30 percent rate increase. The hospital defended the negotiations, saying “fair payments from private insurance companies are an important piece of the puzzle that makes the finances work.”

If the two groups fail to come to an agreement by Oct. 28, UnitedHealth members will pay out-of-network rates for treatment at Hartford Hospital facilities. More than 26,000 UnitedHealth members were treated at Hartford’s facilities in the last 26 months, according to the report.
