Glitch in Ohio’s Computer-Billing System Denies Medicaid Payments to Providers

An Ohio computer-billing system has denied payments to healthcare providers and pharmacies that serve Medicaid recipients due to a technological glitch, according to a Columbus Dispatch report.

After the state changed to the $115 million Medicaid Information Technology System on Aug. 2, the system incorrectly removed patients off the rolls and therefore considered some healthcare providers and pharmacies ineligible to provide Medicaid services, the report said. Some other cases showed payments were denied because bills were submitted with the wrong diagnostic code.

The report said less than one percent of the 90,000 Medicaid providers had their payments mistakenly denied, and most should be paid on Thursday. Payments for pharmacies should be distributed by the end of the next week.
