The layoffs are part of a restructuring plan that aims to offset high labor and supply costs.

“We must find ways to operate more efficiently while maintaining our high standards for quality care and service,” the health system said in a statement shared with Becker’s. “As healthcare continues to evolve through technology and innovation, we must also continue to evolve our workforce.”

Geisinger said department restructurings such as this occur periodically and that the layoffs are not related to its pending acquisition by Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente, according to ABC affiliate WNEP.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
