Florida Hospital Regains Profitability Through Cost Saving Measures

Boca Raton (Fla.) Community Hospital reported $8,434 in earnings on $96 million in revenue for its fiscal third quarter that ended in March, up from the $20.9 million loss on $92.5 million in revenue it posted for the same quarter in 2008, according to a report in the South Florida Business Journal.

Some of the hospital’s cost-saving moves included hiring a new CEO, Jerry Fedele, and partnering with FTI Healthcare to improve its operations, according to the report. BRCH laid off 38 employees and renegotiated contracts. The hospital’s operating expenses dropped $13.4 million compared with the same quarter last year, according to the report.

BRCH will still report a $9.5 million loss for the fiscal year that ends in June, which was down from a $44.3 million loss last year, according to the report.
